Amazing Danish A. Michelsen Silver Bangle

$619.00

This lady is very special. She was done by one of the most famous and finest Danish jeweler houses, A. Michelsen (that later became Georg Jensen)!

A. Michelsen was a leading Danish jeweler company founded in 1841 by Anton Michelsen in Copenhagen. It was responsible for executing all the Danish orders and jewelry for the Danish Royal Court from 1841.

Anton Michelsen’s family that can be traced back to the 17th century, had for generations been metalsmiths. Anton completed a goldsmith's apprenticeship in Odense in 1839 before moving to Copenhagen where he continued his training in Dyrkoph's and court goldsmith J.B. Dalhoff's workshops. He also attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In 1836, he went on a long journey abroad, working in some of the leading goldsmithies in Germany and Paris. He established his own workshop in 1841 and immediately won the attention of Christian VIII whom charged him with executing all Danish orders with the title of royal court and order jeweler (signaled by the little crowns in the hallamark).

When Michelsen died in 1877 his son Carl took over the company, then Carls's son Poul in 1914, and then Poul’s son Jørgen in 1943. In 1985 the company merged with Georg Jensen and became “Georg Jensen”.

When this bracelet was done and by which son I don’t know but my best guess is that it dates to the 1950s or 60s.

The bangle weighs a whopping 49.5 grams. It’s 11-17mm wide and 2.5 mm thick. It has a beautiful sculptural concave shape that suits the wrist so so well!

It has no hinge and glides on from the side of your wrist. The inside circumstance is 6.5 inches. My right wrist here is 6.3 inches and I think it’s just a tad too big for me. I don’t lose it, it just sits very loose on me. I think it would fit a size 6.5-6.9 better.

The condition is excellent with normal age- related wear to surface. You will se minor marks.
